It is important to note that damaging conditions of the eye are usually asymptomatic and often painless, so may go undetected until a permanent damage is done. Early detection and management of diseases that lead to permanent damage of the eye is key in preventing total vision loss. If you observe one or more of the above signs, please contact us to make an appointment. You could be averting a serious eye disease.

Some of those diseases include:

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is an eye disease that if left untreated can affect your ability to see. The disease is usually associated with increased pressure within the eye which damages the optic nerve.

The optic nerve is a bundle of nerve fibers that connect the light sensitive retina at the back of the eye with the brain. It is also called nerve of sight. The optic nerve is the essential link between the eye and the brain that makes vision possible.

Refractive errors

Refractive errors occur when the shape of the eye prevents light from focusing directly on the retina.

The length of the eyeball (longer or shorter), changes in the shape of the cornea or aging of the lenses can cause refractive errors.

The most common types of refractive errors are:

  • Myopia

  • Hyperopia

  • Astigmatism

Treatment: Refractive errors can be corrected with eyeglasses, contact lenses or surgery.
